Beaver signs, Deer, Rain, and Fence Posts!

The dogs and I went for our walk around the alfalfa field. By the looks of it the beaver are busy working on some trees.
We came across some deer, this one stopped to check us out.
There were three girls across the creek from us.
Further along we scared up a buck on our side of the water but by the time I got out of the low spot he was running west along the railroad track.
Just as we got back to the yard Steve and Mitch were returning from a visit with Richard. As you can see we've had more rain. Another quarter of an inch.
They had a load of fence posts to unload. We don't know yet when Richard will be released to come home. I heard you'll be in our neighborhood. See you soon.

Fixing Fence

Last Sunday Ben, Gina(Ben's friend), Emma and Noah(Gina's son) came for some pot roast with us on their way back to Topeka. Gina took this picture of Emma by the barn. They went back around three o'clock.
Yesterday the guys were replacing fence. I drove up to Hunter to get posts for them. Some bigger calves keep pushing their way out to graze on the wheat.
Buddy was along to help. They worked till after dark getting the wire back up on the posts. It rained again which has kept them out of the harvest field. They plan on cutting this afternoon. Richard might come home on Monday. He is looking much better.

Cooking with Sharon

The annual Denmark pheasant dinner is today! I went to the hall with your mom Friday afternoon to get the chili put together. I drove by the field afterwards, they had started cutting again. The header had to be repaired first. Before I got there I stopped to chase in some of our calves. My back has been out all of this week I just started being able to move again the day before yesterday. The calves were nice enough to cooperate. I'm going to go in to town to see Richard today. Steve needs to stay in the field so I'm going to check on him. The forecast is for 6-8 inches of snow starting Sunday. Pray it misses us we really don't need it right now.

Cutting in the field by the lot

I caught sight of these planes while trying to take a picture of the mad owl. You never know what you'll see going on around here.
It was really windy today. I seen these two in the corner of my yard as I was leaving for the soybean field.
More rain is forecast. Let's hope it waits long enough to get the beans finished.
A coyote ran across from the lot towards the south directly behind the combine going down the field.
Richard went to the hospital yesterday. He fell after a busy afternoon. We haven't heard to much except they want to run some tests. They didn't think he broke any bones.
I think we are the last ones cutting beans. It'll be a relief when it is all finished. Then it'll be MILO!!! Then time to wean the calves.....as usual always something needing to be done.

Cutting until the Rain came down!

It Rained again!!!! I helped them move the trucks to the hay shed as the storm moved over the field and it began to pour. Sigh, it'll be a couple days before they can cut again. We got around a half inch.

I took my dogs for a walk this morning, on the way back home moving up the driveway I heard a loud clacking noise and then a hissing sound like a mad snake. It made me freeze. But the sound was head high in our trees, it was an owl I surprised. Boy was he upset. I didn't have my camera or I could of gotten a close up of him. Maybe next time.

The new silage pile finished between rains.

Combine is running good!

Steve, Mitch, and I ate lunch with Richard today. Mitch started cutting beans after eating, they got the combine ready this morning. If you look behind Mitch the neighbors across the road are cutting Milo.
They slowed down the speed and added a plastic hose across the header of the combine (I haven't seen the fix yet to describe it or take a picture, he was already in the field by the time we got there). It made a world of difference in how fast he could cut and the beans are dry now too.
I took Richard down to the field to watch them work. We sat there for a couple hours. My back went out of line a couple of days ago so I was walking as slowly as Richard. We made quite a pair. I'm just glad he didn't need any help getting in and out of the pickup.
We timed Mitch, it took 31 minutes to fill the combine bin. He is cutting beans that were hailed on so they aren't yielding very good.

Working Late

They finished up the field last night except for a mud hole. They were shut down for awhile when the packing tractor had a flat tire that needed to be fixed.
By the time I got back in the yard the sun was going down. The sky looked like it was on fire. We were all glad to hear that you were okay after the shooting. I wish we could say the same for those who didn't make it.
